Heritage for Haiti is an initiative created by Dr. Jean Fritzner Etienne, a Haitian historian, and Melanny Eva Henson, a writer and independent researcher.
They met virtually when Melanny was seeking information related to the Haitian Revolution for her book, Veuve Jamaica, and uncovered critical documents to her research on a website built and maintained by Dr. Etienne. She thanked him profusely for his efforts, and offered to volunteer her skills to write a grant application to help reinforce his efforts. This resulted in building The Atlantic Digital Heritage Institute, a nonprofit dedicated to preserving documents related to Atlantic history, and facilitating public access to the related archives. Melanny and Frtizner discovered a shared passion for sustainable action to address the current crisis in Haiti, and the nonprofit Heritage for Haiti was born.
